WA’s ban on onshore gas exports is lifted… sort of
On 19 September 2024 the Western Australian Government announced updates to its domestic gas policy (the DomGas Policy).

Sophie has experience advising on a wide range of commercial transactions across the mining and oil and gas industries. Her experience includes preparing, negotiating and advising on a broad range of commercial agreements, including sale and purchase agreements, farm-in and joint venture agreements, mineral rights sharing agreements and royalty deeds. She also regularly advises and assists clients in relation to project acquisitions and divestments, regulated mergers and acquisitions, due diligence and land access, tenure and compensation matters.
Her experience extends to assisting clients with Warden’s Court proceedings in relation to objections to tenement applications and forfeiture matters, and providing strategic commercial advice to resolve disputes.

The Economics and Industry Standing Committee of Western Australia has concluded a 59-week inquiry into the state's domestic gas policy, prompted by concerns of a potential domestic gas shortfall and non-compliance by LNG producers.
Legislation Update
On 2 August 2024, the Queensland Government introduced the Regional Planning Interests (Lake Eyre Basin) Amendment Regulation 2024 (New Regulations) and in doing so, limited future oil and gas activities in Queensland’s Lake Eyre Basin.
