HopgoodGanim Lawyers is delighted to have been recognised with a Salvation Army Others Award in recognition of our longstanding support and commitment to the work of The Salvation Army (Salvos).

The Award honours “an extraordinary spirit of service to ‘others’ in the Australian community, with ‘others’ being a word that’s underpinned the Salvos’ mission and work since its foundation.

HopgoodGanim Managing Partner Bruce Humphrys accepted the Others Award at the Salvos’ 2023 Red Shield Appeal launch breakfast earlier this month. Bruce was personally acknowledged by the Salvos team for his long-term leadership and dedicated support to the community partnership. Partner Michael Hansel was recognised for heading up the Red Shield Appeal Doorknock in Brisbane for many years, and Managing Partner elect, Luke Mountford was acknowledged for his continued commitment to the partnership.

“HopgoodGanim Lawyers is honoured to be recognised by The Salvation Army Australia as the recipient for the Others Award in 2023,” said Managing Partner Bruce Humphrys.

“We are also incredibly proud to continue as principal sponsor of the Red Shield Appeal and support the vital and necessary work the Salvos does to help so many people in need in our community.”

This year, the Salvos are drawing attention to the cost of living in Australia, with funds raised in the 2023 Red Shield Appeal aimed at supporting the goal of ensuring “no one struggles alone”.

“This year's Red Shield Appeal aims to raise $5.5 million in Queensland to support people in our community doing it tough," said a Salvation Army spokesperson.

The Salvation Army is proud to partner with HopgoodGanim to host the annual Red Shield Appeal breakfast, which raised over $400,000 to kick off this year's appeal.”

The Salvos assist someone in need every 17 seconds, providing long-term solutions and aid across areas such as accommodation and housing services, financial assistance, food vouchers, case management, emergency relief, addiction recovery services, advocacy and referrals, and Salvos Corps (Church) and community offerings.

HopgoodGanim has been the principal sponsor of the Salvos’ Brisbane Red Shield Appeal Launch for over a decade. Staff regularly volunteer with the Salvos, and the firm has been involved in supporting various other initiatives for more than 20 years.

During the COVID-19 pandemic, HopgoodGanim donated funds for every 25 staff members who became double-vaccinated. At the time, the Salvos’ shared these funds were allocated in a “fight against the rising rates of homelessness and domestic violence, particularly among women, which had become 'an alarming trend' during the pandemic”.

In addition to its partnership with the Salvos, HopgoodGanim is committed to contributing to the community through wider philanthropic activities and commitments. The firm has a Pro Bono impact strategy and dedicated Head of Pro Bono, Leanne Collingburn. HopgoodGanim’s pro bono initiatives are focused on delivering long-term change across the impact areas of reducing domestic and family violence, mitigating the impact of environmental disasters, and working with First Nations communities to achieve the outcomes they want to achieve.
