HopgoodGanim Lawyers is pleased to announce the consolidation of our Cyber Security practice with the appointment of Steven Hunwicks as Head of Cyber Security.

Steven is a Special Counsel in our Intellectual Property, Technology and Cyber Security (IPTC) team.  He has over two decades of legal and commercial experience advising businesses and government on cyber security preparedness, cyber incident response, data privacy, and large-scale technology projects and contracting.

This appointment comes at a time when managing cyber security risks and building cyber security resilience has never been more important and is at the forefront of our clients’ minds.

Hayden Delaney, who leads the firm’s IPTC practice, commented on the breadth of Steven’s expertise and his focus in this new role. “Steven is very experienced at guiding clients through the unfortunate events that take place during and following a cyber security incident. As Head of our Cyber Security practice, Steven will also work proactively with clients in their cyber security assessments and preparedness to ensure a successful incident response.”

Steven is a well-respected member in the cyber security legal community and is a part of the Queensland Law Society (QLS) Cyber Security Working Group, comprising an interdisciplinary team of industry experts, members of the legal profession and QLS staff who collaborate on issues relating to cyber security response, threats and online fraud.

“Steven brings a wealth of expertise and extensive knowledge in supporting our clients to solve the specific types of cyber challenges that they face. His appointment underlines the importance of this issue to our clients and the growth in this area of advice that HopgoodGanim has experienced in recent times,” Managing Partner Luke Mountford said.

In his new role, Steven will be focused on leading HopgoodGanim’s cyber security offering to deliver exceptional outcomes for clients across the full cyber security lifecycle, from cyber security preparedness through to incident response and recovery. With the support of the firm’s legal practitioners across corporate, litigation and IPTC, as well as our non-legal governance and risk consultants, Effective Governance, Steven will lead HopgoodGanim’s advice to clients on this whole-of-business issue.
