HopgoodGanim Lawyers is proud to have participated in the consultation process as part of the Federal Government’s Draft National Plan to End Violence Against Women and Children 2022 – 2032.

Combining the expertise of our people across our family and relationship law and pro bono practices, HopgoodGanim reviewed and responded to the draft national plan and provided six core recommendations, namely:

  • that the draft plan includes details of the organisations and individuals consulted in the preparation of the draft plan for greater transparency on the diversity of input into the plan;
  • that the draft plan is revised to make it clear that it currently only addresses gendered violence against a select group of women and children;
  • that the Federal Government commits to actions and funding to develop dedicated plans to end DFV for all communities;
  • that the Federal Government commits to actions and funding to conduct consultation and research into DFV during the COVID-19 pandemic and natural disasters, to inform the development of better plans, support and interventions in situations of DFV for future crises;
  • that the Federal Government commits in the Draft Plan to work with Australian schools and other key stakeholders to develop and implement mandatory education for the Australian school curriculum to aid in preventing DFV; and
  • that the Federal Government provide more detail in the Draft Plan about the DFV training to be made available for legal practitioners.

We look forward to reviewing the additional detail the Federal Government will provide in relation to its Draft Plan and to continuing to work together to end domestic and family violence against all communities.
