Now in our 50th year, we’re celebrating 5 Decades of Exceptional Outcomes for our people, clients and community.

For our community, we’re proud to feature some of the charities and organisations that we’ve formed strong partnerships with over the years, to explore the history and value of these relationships to HopgoodGanim, and to highlight the incredible work they are doing to assist their community.

The Allison Baden-Clay Foundation is a national foundation which seeks to raise awareness about family and domestic violence in the community and create an Australia that is committed to eliminating and taking affirmative action to stop domestic and family violence.

The Foundation was established in 2015, following the death of Allison Baden-Clay, who was murdered by her husband in what would become one of the most well-known domestic and family violence cases in Australia.

By sharing Allison’s story through their programs, the Foundation educates the community to recognise the signs of family and domestic abuse, including coercive control, and gives people the necessary skills to support friends and family members in abusive relationships.

A key event in the Foundation’s calendar is Strive To Be Kind Day. Held in July each year, this event helps raise funds for their work and brings together the community in memory of Allison, encouraging people to practice kindness and positivity in their daily lives.

The Foundation also maintain several campaigns to help prevent family and domestic violence, including coercive control in teenage relationships, educating and empowering bystanders, and recognising ‘relationship red flags’.

HopgoodGanim Lawyers have been long-term legal partners of The Allison Baden-Clay Foundation and supporters of Allison’s family since 2012.

From 2012 to 2017, several team members from HopgoodGanim provided pro bono assistance to Allison’s family in litigation proceedings that followed her murder, helping the family secure the care of her three girls and ensuring that they would benefit from her estate.

“For many years HopgoodGanim has worked with Allison’s family. In 2023, after announcing my transition from Managing Partner, the family sent me an extremely moving letter acknowledging the contribution of the firm. This letter is one of my most prized possessions and represents one of the proudest moments in my legal career,” said Bruce Humphrys, previous Managing Partner at HopgoodGanim.

After the litigation, HopgoodGanim has continued to work on a pro bono basis with Allison’s family, including to set up and obtain DGR status for The Allison Baden-Clay Foundation, ongoing tax advice and legal research for their current Toxic Love campaign focused on the education of young people on the ‘red flags’ of coercive control in a relationship. We also maintain a Director position on the Foundation’s Board of Directors through Lisa Lahey, a partner in our Family and Relationship team.

On the firm’s support of The Allison Baden-Clay Foundation, Bruce said

We have a long history of working with victims and survivors of domestic and family violence, and HopgoodGanim stands alongside the Foundation in their vision to provide support, strength, and a voice for those who need it most.”

HopgoodGanim is proud to have partnered with The Allison Baden-Clay Foundation for more than 12 years. Their dedication to raising awareness and developing programs to reduce family and domestic violence is truly exceptional.
